NRL Betting Predictions for Season 2022

The 2022 NRL season consists of 25 rounds and 4 weeks of finals, with the 2022 NRL Grand Final scheduled for Sunday, October 2.

Premiership favourites. The Panthers are the reigning champions and worthy of the premiership favourite title. Nipping at their heels are the Cowboys, Sharks, Eels and the ever-consistent Storm.

Bottom 8. There are probably 4 teams you want to avoid betting on this season. We’re talking about the Knights, Bulldogs, Titans and Wests Tigers. The Bulldogs in particular are perennial cellar-dwellers.

Players to watch. Matt Burton is coming off a breakout season while Bradman Best should rebound after an injury-ridden 2021. All eyes will be on Luke Keary to see if he can regain form and up and comer, Joseph Suaalii is one to watch for the future.

Grudge matches. The Broncos v Rabbitohs rivalry is heating up since Adam Reynolds made the switch while the Broncos v Cowboys Queensland derby is always must-see. The Storm v Sea Eagles and Panthers v Rabbitohs are other spicy clashes.

State of Origin Predictions for 2022

Every year representative teams from NSW and QLD play a best-of-3 series to determine the champion state. NSW led by Nathan Cleary won last year’s series and will be hoping to go back-to-back. However, QLD look strong this year with Munster, Ponga and Coates.

While QLD have dominated State of Origin over the past 15 years, the Blues have won 3 out of the last 5 series. But, for what it’s worth, we’re backing the Maroons to bounce back 2-1 in 2022.

Game 1: Wednesday, June 8. Accor Stadium, Sydney.
Game 2: Sunday, June 26. Optus Stadium, Perth.
Game 3: Wednesday, July 13. Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.

NRL Magic Round 2022

The annual NRL Magic Round (Round 10) is a festival of footy where all 8 games take place at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. According to the NRL website, the Magic Round is a weekend of footy, music, food, and fun all around the ground’s precinct. This year, there will be 2 games on Friday night, 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.

NRL Betting Tips

Do you want the edge? When betting on NRL, it’s vital to get all the information before placing your bets, including:

Recent form. The last 2-10 games will indicate if they’re in good or bad form.

Recent history. If you can’t pick a team, check out their last 5 match results - one team might have bragging rights over the other.

Ladder position. The team higher on the ladder is usually more likely to defeat the other. However, there are exceptions early in the season where this doesn’t come into play.

Home ground advantage. Certain teams like Storm, Cowboys and Dragons have strong home ground advantages.

The available team. Some teams lack depth and rely on a few star players, so if they get Injuries or suspensions, the team could be seriously vulnerable. Team lists are released every Tuesday during the NRL season.

Key match-ups. For example, one team might have a powerful defence, while the opposing team has a lousy attack.

The Most Common NRL Betting Markets

Picklebet offers a variety of next to go and outright NRL betting markets. While markets are not always available, they can often include:

Head to Head. Let’s say the Panthers play the Sharks. If you pick the game winner, you win. This bet type is best for beginner and frugal bettors.

Total game points (over under). You can bet whether the total score of an NRL game is going to be over or under the total points given by the bookmaker. For example, over 35 total points.

1st Try Scorer. Pick the player who you think will score the 1st try of the match. First try odds are typically higher than anytime try scorer odds.

1st scoring play. You can bet on the 1st score of the match. This includes tries, penalty goals or field goals. For example, First Try to Broncos.

Anytime Try Scorer. Bet on a player to score a Try anytime throughout the match. For example, Luke Keary anytime Try scorer.

Winning margin. You can bet on which team will win, and also by what margin. For example, Storm to win by 1-12 points.

Line or Handicap bet. When the Bookie applies a points margin (handicap) to the favoured team or player. For example, if one side is considered to be 2.5 points better than the other team, you can wager that this team will win by more than 2.5 points.

Multi Bet. Pool multiple bets together and watch your odds skyrocket. For example, Storm, Broncos and Titans to win their respective matches in Round 1.

Same-Game Multi. Pool multiple bets together in the same match and watch your odds skyrocket. For example, Broncos to win and Adam Reynolds anytime Try scorer (SGM coming to the Picklebet platform soon!).

NRL Premiership Odds. Pick the 2022 NRL premier. For example, Panthers to win the 2022 NRL Premiership. The odds for this market are available all year round and will change depending on form.

Dally M Medal Odds. Awarded to the NRL’s Best & Fairest player during the regular season. For example, Nathan Cleary to win the Dally M Medal.
