Matches from groups A and B are scheduled for Friday, with two teams needing a win after losing their first games. Here is a look at the teams to back and the reasons for them from Friday’s NEST action.
Rogue Warriors (1.49)
I’m quite surprised Rogue Warriors’ odds are so high in this game for two reasons. One, Rogue Warriors have gone into this NEST competition with the majority of their core roster. Two, they have made an unbeaten start to this tournament as they beat Bilibili Gaming without dropping a map. This comes as a surprise for many after a terrible summer split in the LPL, where they won just 11 of 36 maps. This will be an important competition for Rogue Warriors to regain their confidence and momentum ahead of next year.
Zwuji will be a key player for Rogue Warriors. He had a K/D ratio of just 1 (2.78 kills and 2.78 deaths). Ley and Wuming will also be key players for Rogue Warriors in this competition. Considering several teams are playing temporary substitutes in NEST, the core players of a team have an obvious advantage. Ley averaged well over eight assists per game in the summer split of the LPL.
Edward Gaming (2.35)
Edward Gaming got their NEST campaign off to a losing start. Even though there are several main players missing from their roster, there is still enough skill and momentum in the rest of the team. Estar didn’t have a good summer split at all: they won just 13 of 40 maps in the regular season to end a rather disappointing year in the LPL. Edward Gaming were a lot more consistent and steady through that split, winning 20 of 38 regular-season maps. Also, the higher payout for Edward Gaming should be compelling enough, potentially in three maps.
Only some players from the summer split will play this tournament. BBD is one of them, and a key cog as well. Jiejie and Xiaoxiang are two others. Both of them had stellar spring splits, averaging a combined seven kills in the games they played. These three will form a strong trio for Edward Gaming.
