The first big Dota 2 event in a calendar year and in this Dota 2 season has ended. We have crowned the champions from China and we witnessed some crazy storylines on the way. Here is our short report of the most important things.

China Powerhouse

After 3 stages, and 8 days of constant Dota 2, Invictus Gaming has been crowned as ONE Singapore Major champions. They have won the 1st place trophy and $200,000 prize pool from the total of $500,000. Together with that they’ve earned 500 DPC points that will count towards The International 10.

Invictus Gaming were one of the Playoff Seed teams directly placed in the playoff bracket. Why? Well, because they were champions of Chinese DPC Season 1 tournament. Together with Evil Geniuses, Team Secret, Fnatic and VirtusPro as winners of their own regional DPC tournaments.

Their road to the grand finals was everything, just not easy. 2-1 vs Vici Gaming in playoffs round 1. 0-2 vs Evil Geniuses in round 2 and their downfall to the lower bracket. That’s where their run started. 2-1 vs Thunder Predator, 2-0 vs Team Secret, 2-1 vs PSG.LGD and here they were. Evil Geniuses awaited them in the best of 5 grand finals. As IG already lost to EG one time in this competition, all odds were on EG’s side. They were the favourites. And after EG managed to get 2-0 lead in the grand finals, IG showed why they are the best team in China. They play the best under pressure. From 0-2 to win 3 games in a row and to win the whole match with a close 3-2. Reverse sweep. Americans were down. From dominant tournament run to devastating grand final performance.

American Region

American region was one of the strongest in this tournament. Against the all odds Evil Geniuses and Thunder Predator showed that there is still fire in those scenes. EG as North American representatives and Thunder Predator as South American representatives. Thunder Predator were the biggest underdog of the tournament and the biggest surprise of the tournament too. South Americans won Group Stage with 5 wins and 2 draws. In the playoffs, they’ve managed to beat Team Aster and VirutsPro, before they fell to eventual tournament winners Invictus Gaming to drop out of the tournament.

Evil Geniuses made another Cinderella story. I do think that very few people thought that can go all the way. But they surprised us all and they showed amazing performances and team play with Abed and iceiceice on their new roster. They were impeccable until the grand finals. And once we thought they had the trophy, Invictus Gaming pulled out the miracle reverse sweep. A big props to Evil Geniuses as they will surely be strong contenders in the future tournaments. After a disastrous last season, they’ve deserved it.

Our picks were: IG, Team Secret and PSG.LGD. Change Secret for EG and you got your final top 3. Not perfect, but a pretty close and good prediction. Those teams proved again that we’re one of the best teams out there right now.
