Last year in May we wrote about NewBee’s match-fixing scandal.
Back then, Newbee, one of China’s powerhouse Dota 2 teams and the winner of The International 4, was banned from major Chinese Dota 2 competitions due to match-fixing. All major Chinese tournament organizations decided to ban Newbee and it’s players from participating in their leagues. Why? Because it was proven that Newbee was match-fixing games in China Dota 2 Pro League Season 2 and DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1, run by ImbaTV and the CDA.
Now, 8 months after, Valve finally managed to make their verdict. Together with Perfect World, Chinese tournament organizers, they’ve given Newbee a blow that they can’t recover from. Valve has made a final decision, the decision we have all been waiting for and we all know it will come. That decision is that Newbee is banned from all Valve official competitions starting from January 1st, 2021. Forever.
But that’s not all. Together with the organization, all five players that played at that time for Newbee Dota 2 squad, were banned too. For life. They can’t play in any Valve or Perfect World competitions anymore.
The organization, as well as the following former players, have been permanently banned by Valve:
This means we will never see Newbee again competing in Dota 2. What does that mean for the players? Basically retirement, they are done with the Dota 2, as they don’t have anything to play for, at least on the professional level.
Interestingly enough, Faith was one of the Invictus Gaming’s players that won The International 2012, while together with Moogy he was part of the Newbee when they won 2nd place at The International 2017. Sadly, their Dota 2 professional careers are now over. Regarding Newbee, it’s hard to say goodbye to one of the most accomplished Dota 2 organizations in the history of the game and competition.
