January 18th marks the start of the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit. This year’s DPC will consist of 2 seasons that will lead to The International, biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year. Each season will consist of a six week league that will lead to the Major tournament. Remaining slots for The International 10 will be filled with the additional qualifiers.

Each region will have upper and lower divisions. Teams from the upper division will have a chance to qualify for the Major, while teams from the lower division will have a chance to fight for the spot in the upper division.

In this preview, we will shortly analyze upper divisions from all regions in the DPC system.

ESL One CIS Online Season 1: Upper Division

Teams playing CIS upper division are:

  • EXTREMUM
  • Live to Win
  • Natus Vincere
  • NoPangolier
  • NoTechies
  • Team Empire
  • Team Spirit
  • VirtusPro

VirtusPro, NaVi, Spirit and Live to win are the teams which were invited directly to this upper division, while other 4 teams needed to qualify through the decider tournament. Even tho all of the qualifying teams are very decent CIS squads, I don’t think they have a chance of taking that 1st place and a direct Major Playoffs spot. For me, there are 2 straight favourites to win this division. Firstly, the young VirtusPro team and on the second place, Natus Vincere. VirtusPro are the biggest favourites for me, if they can continue their form from the late 2020. 1st place EPIC League winners will need to take on NaVi for 1st place for sure, as NaVi is the 2nd best team out there at the moment for sure. Surely, this will be an interesting tournament to watch as CIS region is always unpredictable.

Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 1 - Southeast Asia Upper Division

Teams participating in SEA DPC upper division are:

  • 496 Gaming
  • BOOM Esports
  • Execration
  • Fnatic
  • Neon Esports
  • T1
  • TNC Predator
  • Vice Esports

SEA region is always one of the most interesting ones. But it’s one of the most unstable regions too, where there are always a lot of teams competing for the championships. Surely, TNC Predator and Fnatic are maybe one of the biggest favourites on the paper, but I would mention Neon Esports too. A team that came out of upper division qualifiers in a pretty dominant fashion. I’m sure they can be an underdog here in this tournament and break some bigger teams. Those are my 3 favourites.

OGA DPC South America Regional League Season 1: Upper Division

Eight South American teams will participate in upper division:

  • Beastcoast
  • EgoBoys
  • Infamous
  • Latam Defenders
  • NoPing Esports
  • SG Esports
  • Team Unknown
  • Thunder Predator

Team Unknown is a very interesting team coming from the qualifiers for this upper division. However, I don’t there is any team from the qualifiers that can be a threat for the 4 invited teams: SG, Thunder Predator, Infamous and beastcoast. For the last months and most of the last year some of those teams were carriers of the South American Region. Thunder Predator, Infamous and beastcoast are surely one of the favourites for this region. Maybe the biggest favourites are Thunder Predators. With 2 tournament championships in the December last year they are surely one of the strongest Dota 2 squads in the region. As I said already, I do think that Team Unknown can go far this tournament.

DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU Upper Division

Here are the 8 teams competing in the EU region:

  • Team Liquid
  • OG
  • Team Secret
  • Team Nigma
  • Vikin.gg
  • Alliance
  • Mudgolems
  • Chicken Fighters

Personally, the best and the most interesting region for me is the European one. EU is consistently the most competitive region in the Dota 2 world and has the best teams in the world constantly. This season won’t be any different as all the big guns are here and I’m so excited to watch this division. This is a really tough task to predict the winner here. Team Secret did fall in form in the last few months and they’ve didn’t managed to win anything since September. I’m eager to see how they will enter into the new season. Refreshed or on the same note as they’ve ended up last year. They are surely the biggest favourites to take the EU region for sure, no matter bad results lately. Together with them, there is OG. This is their tournament. Big level of Dota 2, big stakes, road to The International. OG always shows the best games in such important leagues and I see them as top 3 here. From underdogs, I can see Alliance or Vikin.gg as potential surprises here.

Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 1 - China Upper Division

Here are 8 teams from Chinese upper division:

  • PSG.LGD
  • EHOME
  • Vici Gaming
  • Elephant
  • Team Aster
  • Magma
  • LBZS
  • Invictus Gaming

China is with Europe the most competitive region in the world, and the most strongest one for sure. Just looking at those teams gives me a chills. All the best Chinese organizations and teams are here. From PSG.LGD and Elephant to amazing Aster who came out of qualifiers. From the invited teams PSG.LGD are surely favourites number 1 and Elephant are right behind them. Aster is surely one team that can surprise us here, a real underdogs. In fact Chinese region is so competitive that all teams can beat each other in any situation. Vici Gaming, EHOME and Invictus Gaming are teams that can go all the way, it’s crazy. The hardest region to predict the winner.

Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 1 - North America Upper Division

In North American region, those teams will participate:

  • Quincy Crew
  • Evil Geniuses
  • 4Zoomers
  • SadBoys
  • Undying
  • Black N Yellow
  • A-Team
  • 5ManMidas

This is the region that most probably has fallen the most over the last months or a year. Quality of Dota in North American is dropping fast and Evil Geniuses is the only professional organization there supporting top Dota 2. Evil Geniuses did nothing in the last 6 months of 2020, and I wonder after their lineup changes how their play will look. Obviously, they are one of the favourites on paper, just because of their amazing individuals in the squad. Quincy Crew and 4Zoomers are the teams to look at right there. Outside of that trio, I don’t see anybody coming even close to winning a 1st place. My predictions would be Quicy Crew or Evil Geniuses taking the championship and Major Playoffs spot.
