After a spectacular a nail-biting grand finals against Alliance, Nigma emerged victorious in OGA Dota PIT Season 2: Europe and CIS. Even with their coach as a stand-in the team proved to be no match for the other competitors.

A New Chapter

Even though OGA Dota PIT Season 2 Europe and CIS had a quite simple format, the prize pool of $170,000 made it something more than a mere double-elimination bracket would suggest. With a little over $70,000 for first place and the chance to put your name down in history as the team who won a tournament during Team Secret’s time, teams were excited. Many people doubted that Nigma would be able to make it far into this tournament due to KuroKy’s injury that forced him to step aside and their coach rmN- had to fill the hole.

As it turned out all of their comments were unnecessary as rmN- not only played amazingly but now the community is praising him everywhere for how good he is. This is Nigma’s first tournament win since WePlay! Dota 2 Tug of War: Mad Moon back in February, where they defeated the giants in the room - Team Secret. Could this be a new chapter for the team, they were pretty close to beating Secret multiple times recently but fell just short, will this be the spark that they needed to lit the flame of dominance and take over the scene?

Tournament Recap

Let’s leave Nigma’s great performance aside for a moment and talk about the rest of the teams. OGA Dota PIT Season 2 Europe and CIS featured eight teams in total and among them, the first to be eliminated were Ninjas in Pyjamas and Vikin.gg. NiP are visibly struggling after SoNNeikO was removed from the team and are unable to find their pace, while Vikin.gg continued their trend of inconsistency.

A bit surprisingly, Na’Vi and VP.Prodigy took 5th/6th place after showing signs of hope for a moment but falling down quickly after that. FlyToMoon proved that they still have their place among the best teams by taking 4th place after meeting OG in the Loser Bracket. And speaking of OG we can’t ignore the fact that they played some amazing games. CEB returning to the team inspired the rest and we saw the best version of the squad in months. It wouldn’t be surprising if after a few more weeks they reclaim back their spot at the top.

And finally, Alliance. The team that could have been who were beaten in a shameful 3-0 in the Grand Final, but then almost made the reverse sweep to win it 3-2 in their favor. Whatever we say about their play it won’t paint the whole picture as this team’s potential is yet to be reached. Some of their drafts just click with them so well that there is no other team in the world that could stop them, while others just seem off. S4 will still have some work to do in order to clear everything up, but until then we can be happy that we witness one of the best Grand Finals in a while. Big shout out to both Nigma and Alliance for presenting us with this gift.
