FaZe have officially announced the signing of Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye, who has been a free agent ever since leaving North in June. The Dane comes in to replace Aurimas “Bymas” Pipiras, who has been deemed surplus to requirements by the North American organization. The young Lithuanian has already found a new home with mousesports, who have chosen to expand to a six-man roster.

With the addition of Kjaerbye, FaZe’s roster now looks as follows:

  • 🇳🇴 Håvard “rain” Nygaard
  • 🇧🇦 Nikola “NiKo” Kovač
  • 🇧🇷 Marcelo “coldzera” David
  • 🇱🇻 Helvijs “broky” Saukants
  • 🇩🇰 Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye

Who is Kjaerbye?

Kjaerbye
Team: FaZe (ex. North)
K/D Ratio: 1.09
Headshot Percentage: 52.6%
Assists / Round: 0.15

It is easy to forget that Kjaerbye is just 22-years of age because of how long he has played at the highest level. The Dane established himself internationally playing for Copenhagen Flames in late 2014 alongside players such as aizy and gla1ve. His performances earned him a spot on Astralis in 2016, where he won multiple trophies, with the highlight being his MVP performance at the ELEAGUE Atlanta Major in 2016.

In a shocking move in 2018, Kjaerbye announced that he would be leaving Astralis in favor of North, where he has played up until now. While North have had a fair amount of success in DreamHack events, in particular, the team has widely been considered underachievers due to the quality of players that they have had at their disposal throughout the years. While his team has struggled, Kjaerbye has put up decent numbers, posting a K/D ratio of 1.06 and an overall rating of 1.09, bested only by valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså.

Kjaerbye is a full-time rifler who is best known for his individual skill and his shaky, but accurate, spray. How FaZe will choose to utilize Kjaerbye is still up for debate, and it begs to question if he will be able to slot into the CT side positions that were used by both Bymas and his predecessor, Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer. For example, Kjaerbye has pretty much exclusively played outside on Nuke and around connector on Mirage, two positions that overlap with Nikola “NiKo” Kovač. Because of this, the integration of Kjaerbye may not be the smoothest.
