In a video conference earlier today, Jason Lake, CEO of Complexity, made the announcement that 17-year old Owen “oBo” Schlatter has chosen to bench himself from the team and travel back to the United States. The decision appears to have been made on very short notice, leaving the team in a bit of a pickle with the ESL Pro League playoffs just around the corner.

In the video conference, Jason Lake explained the situation.

“Unfortunately effective immediately, Owen Schlatter, oBo, has chosen to bench himself and return to the United States. As you know, it has been a difficult year that has seen our team – that was intended to be based in North America with bootcamps in Europe – living in Europe during a global pandemic.”

“Over the player break, Owen expressed reservations about returning to Europe. Very early this morning, London time, he informed the team that he was at the airport and was returning home. There was no team drama, fights or arguments. This was a decision that Owen had to make for himself.”

Jason Lake made sure to thank oBo for his time with Complexity.

“I’d like to sincerely thank Owen for his hard work and for enduring really challenging circumstances during a difficult year. Moving forward we will be working with him to find him a North American team.”

He went on to explain that they are already in the process of finding a replacement for oBo, but may be forced to use emergency replacements for a while moving forward. Coach Jamie “keita” Hall has had to stand-in for the team in their last two matches in the DreamHack Open qualifier.

Complexity are now down to the following four players:

  • 🇩🇰 Benjamin “blameF” Bremer
  • 🇺🇸 William “RUSH” Wierzba
  • 🇩🇰 Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke
  • 🇧🇬 Valentin “poizon” Vasilev

The video conference with Jason Lake can be seen in its entirety on Complexity’s YouTube Channel.
