There are three quarterfinals of the National Electronic Sports Tournament scheduled for Friday. We break down predictions for two of them along with the teams to back on Picklebet.
Funplus Phoenix (2.03)
These odds for Funplus Phoenix are quite tempting for several reasons. One, Funplus are unbeaten in this NEST competition so far (2-0 series record, 4-2 maps record). They have most of their regular starters playing this competition, which is a massive boost. RNG, on the other hand, have been a bit hot and cold through the two matches so far. They have even lost one series en route to their 3-3 maps record. If this was the LPL, then RNG would have been the team to beat, but at NEST, Funplus have a lot of confidence and momentum after a strong performance in the group stage.
Funplus Phoenix will continue to rely on Lwx in the bottom lane. He has been in spirited form right through this year, including both splits of the LPL and this NEST competition. Crisp has been a reliable support player to Lwx as well, converting equal one-on-one matchups into advantageous situations.
Team WE (1.56)
This game is quite similar to the previous one, with one major difference. Team WE start as favourites against Edward Gaming. Team WE have a 2-0 series record, with a 4-1 maps record. Edward Gaming have lost one and won one match in Group B of NEST. Man for man, on paper, Team WE have too much firepower in the lanes. Even in the jungle, Team WE have proved to be destructive. That was evident in the LPL’s summer split too. It will be interesting to see how effectively Edward Gaming engage and disengage. I’d back the proven and trusted method of Team WE.
The two big players for Team WE will be Teacherma and Jiumeng. In the bottom lane, Jiumeng has been a nightmare for several teams. In the summer split of the LPL, he averaged 4.53 kills with 5.95 assists per game, giving him a kill participation of close to 10. Teacherma had a similar kill participation in summer (3.12 kills and 6.93 assists per map).
