The third Major of the 2019/20 DPC season is upon us and everybody wants to know which of the ESL One Los Angeles Major teams will take home the trophy at the end.

Competition Information

ESL One is heading back to the USA bringing Dota 2 to the home of glitz, glamour and sunny beaches; Los Angeles! From March 15-22, the City of Angels will host the third Major in the Dota 2 DPC Season, so expect the best teams from around the world. The tournament offers $1 million in prizes and 15,000 qualification points for The International 2020. You can be sure ESL One Los Angeles will feature the exceptional viewing experience you expect from such a prestigious tournament. This year’s ESL One Los Angeles is going to take place at the Shrine Auditorium, an almost 100 years old theater. With a capacity of 6300 spectators and one of the largest stages in North America, it is one of the landmarks of Los Angeles.

The 16 participants compete in a single-bracket group stage and double-elimination playoffs at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles from March 15 to 22. The group stage divides the 16 teams into four groups to determine the upper bracket and lower bracket participants in the playoffs. The remaining teams then compete in a double-elimination bracket with BO3 matches before moving to the grand finals. The winner of the competition earns the lion’s share of the $1,000,000 prize pool and the 15,000 DPC points.

The Current Season

As expected, the tournament features some of the biggest powerhouse teams from previous The International finals. Out of 6 regions, 16 teams have qualified for the finals. The 6 regions are: Europe, CIS, North America, China, SEA, and South America. 3 teams from each region advance to the main event except for North and South American and CIS regions. Two teams from each of these regions get to play in the finals. Even though this uneven distribution of the slots has received heavy criticism from the fans, the organizers have decided to go ahead with it. The qualifiers’ list is already out and ESL One Los Angeles 2020 odds are favoring OG and Secret as having the highest chance of winning. These teams come from the six official regions of the DPC:

  • Team Secret
  • OG
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas

  • Invictus Gaming
  • Royal Never Give Up,

Southeast Asia:

  • Fnatic
  • Geek Fam
  • Team Adroit

  • Natus Vincere
  • Virtus.Pro

North America:

  • Evil Geniuses
  • Chaos Esports Club

South America:

  • Thunder Predator
  • beastcoast

The final team getting the 16th spot is the champion of StarLadder ImbaTV Minor S3, Team Aster. The tournament marks the debut of two-time The International champion OG Esports and its new roster. Only Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen and Johan “N0tail” Sunsdtein remain from the original 5, but the addition of legendary players Sumail “Suma1L” Hassan and Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng can surely fill in the roles of JerAx and Ana. OG would be competing against other TI veterans like Fnatic, Evil Geniuses, Royal Never Give Up, Virtus.Pro, Invictus Gaming, and Team Secret. DPC favorites like TNC Predator and PSG.LGD failed to make it to the list after a disappointing run in the regional qualifiers. Their losses gave leeway for new teams to claim the major spots.

Picklebet Picks & Predictions

OG @ 3.42

OG is no longer that Cinderella team that broke through the giants to win one of the biggest tournaments of Dota 2. The former members of the (monkey)business have formed this team and got their first big breakthrough in 2015. Since then, they have been playing quite successfully, but not in the major’s level. Nobody has expected them to win 2018 The International and win the huge prize of $11.324.200. Then they defended their title last year and won the largest prize in the esports’ tournament in history. For the ESL One Los Angeles odds, they’re holding the first place with the Team Secret with 3.42 betting odds according to Picklebet.

Team Secret @ 3.42

Despite several controversies and changes that had happened to the team, Team Secret is still one of the best Dota 2 teams at this time. Starting from 2015, the team captain Puppey has built the team from scratch three times. Team Secret was the only team to go undefeated in the group stage, with a 4-0 record. Being in the top seed has definitely given them some advantages in the European region. After crushing Nigma in their zone, they have secured their spot in the play-offs. The amazing record of 10-0 has given them a right to be on the top spot of the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 odds with 3.42.

Evil Geniuses @ 6.88

Evil Geniuses is one of the oldest North American professional gaming teams. The team was formed in 1999 and is known for excelling in every game they play. Starting from 2011, the team has founded the new Dota 2 division. After several tournaments, the team has decided to focus only on Dota 2 in order to be the best in the scene. The team has been competing with Team Secret ever since 2015 when two of their players Arteezy and Zai had left the team to join Team Secret. Currently, they are the 3rd biggest favourite to take ESL One Los Angeles 2020 trophy.

Other possible teams that have a chance of winning this Dota 2 tournament are amazing Chinese teams Invictus Gaming and also Team Aster who displayed an incredible performance by winning StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3.
