Dota 2 Community Complain about Valve’s Silence

The Dota 2 community has been talking about the lack of information from Valve about the Dota Pro Circuit. The DPC, the official Dota 2 esports circuit has been indefinitely postponed since March when the coronavirus pandemic forced tournaments to take place offline. Dota 2 caster Kyle expressed his frustration at Valve and the lack of any forward vision by the game developer. While postponing the DPC events was necessary earlier in the year, other esports titles have moved forward with their tournaments. The Overwatch League, Call of Duty League, League of Legends tournaments and multiple third-party CS:GO events are continuing online providing quality entertainment to esports fans at home. Kyle made a tweet singling out Dota 2 content creator Singsing for broadcasting official Dota 2 matches.

Streamers broadcasting Dota 2 tournaments off DotaTV hurts the ability of tournament organizers to secure exclusive sponsors, often costing them tens of thousands of dollars in sponsorship money. Kyle apologized in a subsequent tweet but highlighted the problem plaguing Dota 2 esports. Dota 2 tournaments are also available for public viewing in the game’s client. With one of the best live-view clients in the game, Dota 2 content creators are allowed by Valve to re-stream events off the DotaTV. Non-exclusivity of these streams directly affects the ability of tournament organizers to secure brand sponsorships. Hopefully, Dota 2 professional players and talents can have open discussions with Valve about this issue and come to a resolution soon.
