Just a few days ago, Valve announced most of the crucial information about the new Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season. 2021 DPC Season will feature 2 legs with regional leagues and a Major.
January 18th marks the start of the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit. This year’s DPC will consist of 2 seasons that will lead to The International, the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year. Each season will consist of a six week league that will lead to the Major tournament. Remaining slots for The International 10 will be filled with the additional qualifiers.
Season 1 will start on Monday, January 18th and will end on February 28th. So this means that after a month and a half we will find out which teams from each region will qualify for the upcoming Major.
The same rules apply for the Season 2, and Season 2 is set to start on Tuesday, April 13th and is set to end on May 23rd.
Each region will have upper and lower divisions. Teams from the upper division will have a chance to qualify for the Major, while teams from the lower division will have a chance to fight for the spot in the upper division. That’s a really standard and fair competition system already in the world of sports.
Here are the 6 DPC 2021 Season regions (list of regions and it’s tournament organizers):
Europe’s region will surely be one of the most interesting ones. Directly invited teams are: Team Secret, Team Nigma, Team Liquid and OG. 4 teams need to qualify for the event throughout the deciders tournament.
I’m so hyped about this region. Invited teams are: VirtusPro, Natus Vincere, Team Spirit and Live to Win. And in the deciding tournament we will watch teams like Gambit, Winstrike, Empire, HellRaisers and Dendi’s B8.
China is surely the most stacked region in the world. Chinese teams are standardly one of the strongest ones, and the competition in the 2021 season is pretty big. Invited teams are: PSG.LGD, Vici, EHOME and Elephant. In the qualifiers we will watch top Chinese teams like Aster, Invictus Gaming, SAG and RNG. Pretty amazing lineups all the way.
The holy trinity of the SEA region is here, already invited. Fnatic, TnC Predator and BOOM joined by T1 will surely make an interesting tournament. 4 teams remained to join them.
Definitely, the currently poorest region in the Dota 2. The North American region fell so hard in the last months. Quality of NA Dota is on very low levels currently, and we have only 3 serious teams there. Quincy Crew, Evil Geniuses and 4Zoomers are only top contenders here. Let’s mention Sad Boys too, a new squad made only for this new season. 4 places remain, and i’m not sure which teams can fill those places up so the quality stays high. Probably none.
The South American region is traditionally dominated by Peruvians. Followed by Brazilians, those two nations make 95% of teams out there. With Thunder Predator, SG esports, Infamous and Beastcoast, this region can potentially be very interesting too.
All regions have the same prize pool of $205,000 and the same number of Pro Circuit points for grabs, 1150. At the end of the league, the top teams from each region’s upper division will qualify for the Major. For the first Major there will be 18 slots and Major will take place from March 25th to April 4th.
