ESL One Cologne 2020: G2 vs. OG

G2 Map 2 (1.52)

These two sides have faced off three times this year, with G2 having the better overall H2H record with 2 wins and 1 loss. However, it was OG who got the better of the French side last time, winning 2–0 in ESL Pro League back in March. G2 have picked Dust2 in all three of these series, while OG have picked either Inferno, Mirage or Nuke. While Dust2 has been a comfort pick for G2, there is an interesting opportunity to take advantage of OG’s weakness on Train, where they have lost five straight - breaking double digits only once. On the side of OG, Inferno may prove to be the best pick. They have five straight wins on Inferno, beating the likes of NiP and BIG (twice). G2 rarely play this map and it doesn’t quite fit their style of play as much like Mirage, where their edge in firepower becomes a bigger factor. I regard G2 as the stronger team, especially on their map choice, but OG will have a solid chance at the upset depending on how the map veto plays out.

ESL One Cologne 2020: Astralis vs. NiP

Astralis Map 1 (1.51)

This is probably the most interesting match on the board, as the brand new Astralis roster takes on their nordic rivals in NiP. I would expect Astralis to go towards the obvious Nuke pick just like they did against fnatic. On the side of NiP, Overpass, Vertigo and Train are all viable options. They have beaten the original Astralis roster on Vertigo twice in the past, so it is the most obvious map choice. However, NiP haven’t looked nearly as effective on Vertigo since hampus joined the roster, so I suspect that they may be tempted to pick Train in this spot, especially when you consider how close fnatic came to beating Astralis on Train earlier in the tournament. Astralis does have an undeniable advantage on Nuke, but if NiP can take their map choice, they will have more than a fighter’s chance on the decider.

ESL One Cologne 2020: FURIA vs. Evil Geniuses

FURIA +1.5 (1.41)

Evil Geniuses’ record against FURIA is crazy. They have yet to lose against FURIA this year, and even if you go back to the NRG days, the Brazilians still couldn’t win in a BO3. It is interesting to note how close some of these series have been, as well. In their last meeting, both of the maps went all 30 rounds, with each team taking a map win apiece. While Evil Geniuses are certainly favored with history in mind, we’re reaching a point now where FURIA should be considered at the longer odds. Considering how close this series has been recently, both the map handicap and the round totals are interesting plays.

Prop Bet

Pick: EVIL GENIUSES, Brehze, Most Kills (Match)

Vertigo has been the most common map in the last three series between EG and FURIA, and Brehze has averaged the highest kills/round on this map in 2020 (0.79). While CeRq does edge him out on Nuke, Brehze has been the far better player on Inferno (0.74 kills/round vs 0.67 kills/round.) making me edge this one in favor of Brehze at the same number.
