The likes of Liquid and FURIA will duke it out in the BLAST Premier: Spring Finals! We break it all down in our preview of the event.

Competition Information

Four of the best teams in the American region will fight it out for $250,000 in prizes in addition to a spot in next year’s Global Final.

FURIA, MIBR and Evil Geniuses qualified through the Americas Showdown, while Team Liquid claimed their spot by winning the Regular Season. This event will feature a double-elimination, best-of-three bracket.

The first-round matchups are as follows:

Team Liquid (1.51) vs. Evil Geniuses (2.44)

Team Liquid take on Evil Geniuses in this classic North American matchup between two of the best teams in the region. Team Liquid have had Evil Geniuses in an iron-grip lately, winning the last five series against them, and they are big favorites to make it six in a row.

FURIA (1.41) vs. MIBR (2.95)

There used to be a time where no Brazilian team could realistically challenge FalleN and his men, but in recent times FURIA have really stepped up the plate, overtaking MIBR as the number one Brazilian team. In fact, they have yet to lose against MIBR in a best-of-three, winning four in a row.

The BLAST Premier Spring: American Finals will kick off June 16 and will run through June 21.

The Current Season

Liquid are coming off a 2–0 loss to FURIA in the final of DreamHack Masters Spring. The North American giants have struggled at times in 2020, especially against FURIA who have truly established themselves as the top dog in the region lately. However, Liquid will have a great chance at getting off to a good start against Evil Geniuses, whom they have had a big edge against historically.

Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses have plummeted in HLTV’s world rankings, dropping from the no. 1 spot in November of last year to 12th in June. Their most recent event was BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, where they earned their spot in this tournament by winning the third-place decider against Gen.G. While they did do well to qualify for this event, they were shockingly poor at both ESL One: Road to Rio and DreamHack Masters Spring, which doesn’t bode well for them going forward. However, they do have some interesting upset potential against FURIA, a team that they have a 13–3–2 H2H record against.

MIBR have now played 17 games with their latest addition of trk, and they have looked pretty solid. Their performance at BLAST Premier Spring Showdown was impressive. They kicked off the tournament by beating fellow rivals FURIA in a best-of-one, and they did not drop a single game after that, getting draws against Cloud9 and Chaos, followed by wins against Cloud9 and Evil Geniuses in the playoffs. They have a really tough first-round matchup against FURIA, but perhaps their last win against them will give them some much-needed confidence heading into this highly anticipated match.

Best Map: Mirage (100.0%)
Worst Map: Nuke (44.4%)

FURIA have been on fire recently. The Brazilian side have racked up top placing after top placing, and they are fresh off winning the North American division of DreamHack Masters Spring. Their trio of KSCERATO, yuurih and HEN1 continue to put up great numbers, and the aggressive play of arT has been excellent to watch. They have received a very favorable first-round matchup against MIBR, a team that they have dominated all throughout 2020, making them a big favorite to win this event.

Betting Tips

Interestingly, Evil Geniuses are one of few teams to have given FURIA problems this year, and if they were to meet in the bracket there is some potential for an upset. However, I like FURIA’s chances of taking this one down overall due to how the bracket is likely to play out. If you want more betting advice, make sure to read our daily betting tips.
