The Stakes

The European and CIS regions have received the lion’s share of prize money in recent months. It’s pretty clear these regions are highly competitive, are desirable for fans to watch and thus, draw sponsors. This event is no different: $200,000 is up for grabs. Above and beyond this, Team Secret has won five tournaments in a row. Any of the other teams attending would love the bragging rights as the team who won an event over Team Secret.

Here is the group breakdown for Beyond Epic Dota 2 tournament. BEYOND EPIC will begin with a round-robin group stage. Teams will compete from June 15 through June 24 in best-of-three series to seed the playoffs. The 2 best teams in each group will advance to the upper bracket, 3-4th places will make up the first-round matchups in the lower bracket, and the 5-6th places will be eliminated from the tournament. Two of these teams, Team Empire Hope and, qualified for the event via a closed qualifier.

Top Teams

With twelve teams competing, which ones stand out? Team Secret. We could leave it at that because we all know they’ve had an incredibly strong record over the past few months. But what other teams should you watch? OG, Team Liquid, Alliance, and Nigma make up the second level of teams at this event. If Team Secret were not attending, we’d expect one of these teams to take the crown. They’ve all placed in the top portion of tournaments in recent months. If you’re looking for an up-and-comer, watch They’ve had flashes of brilliance over the last two months, and despite having to go through a qualifier to attend the event, they could be the spoiler for other teams. And what about A year ago, the squad would have been a must-mention in the top tier of the competition. However, their roster shuffle this season has left the team on uncertain footing. We can expect a middle of the pack finish for them. Anything higher can be considered evidence that this team is finally stabilizing. And really, with a top-notch captain like Alexei “Solo” Berezin, we should anticipate this team returning to contention any day now. Of course, one of the beautiful things about Dota is that nothing’s guaranteed. Any of these teams could show up and surprise us. We’d love to see an unexpected squad climb the ranks and go deep in the competition.

BEYOND EPIC’s group stage will be from June 15-24. A double-elimination playoff bracket will follow the group stage, running from June 25-28. Who would you trust to bring us an event called “BEYOND EPIC”? Maybe Epic Esports Events, the people responsible for EPICENTER? They’ve put on some very impressive events in the past, and now we’ll see how they fare online. Of course, they’re not running this tournament alone. Beyond the Summit and RuHub are both on board. These two studios bring years of esports broadcast experience to the table. We can expect some great things, undoubtedly.

Picklebet Favourites

At first glance, we have an obvious favorite here, and that’s Team Secret. The European powerhouse has been just flawless in the last couple of months, winning five events in a row. What’s even more impressive about them is that they’ve done so with little to no problems. In fact, they’ve only lost a couple of games in all of those events, which is just a clear sign that Team Secret is the best team in the world. Amongst other favourites are Alliance and OG, who have both taken games off Team Secret in the recent tournaments.
